Located in Portland’s hip Pearl District, the Janey is a new six-story ‘eco-chic’ residential building which caters to green-minded urban professionals. The project incorporates numerous green features including a living wall, a rooftop garden and an extensive eco-roof. The Janey was completed in August 2012 and achieved LEED Platinum status.
The Janey features 30 one-bedroom and 20 studio apartments in a six-story structure with ground-floor retail. Green living was identified as a key ingredient in attracting an urban professional clientele to this new development. Between this desire and the requirement to treat all stormwater on-site, the eco-roof was considered an integral part of the project from the beginning.
Working closely with the Owner to ensure that their objectives were met, deChase provided due diligence, risk management advice, developed and managed the project budget, and coordinated the project team to ensure timely and accurate communication and delivery.
Residents of the Janey have access to a rooftop gathering space with stunning views of Mt. Hood and the Freemont Bridge. The patio was conceived as an urban oasis, complete with areas for al fresco grilling, dining and fireside lounging. The public space is complemented by a 4,900sf extensive sedum eco-roof which blankets the remainder of the roof in green. The planting plan was designed to read as blocks of color when viewed from taller buildings in the Pearl and Brewery Blocks. The eco-roof captures and treats 100% of stormwater runoff, prolongs the life of the roof, and saves on heating and cooling costs. Additional features include mechanical stacker parking, bicycle storage, individual private terraces, top of the line European appliances, an energy-efficient VRF HVAC system, and responsibly sourced materials.
